Celebrating its sixth anniversary season, Sun Valley Opera Company is dedicated to bringing professional opera singers to the Wood River Valley. It’s popular “Met to Broadway” series entertains consistently sold-out audiences with shows featuring highlights from opera and musical theater. The concerts are held for one night only in winter, spring, and summer.
Programs have included mezzo-soprano diva Paula Rasmussen from the New York City Opera singing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from “Evita”; and tenor Matthew Lord from the Metropolitan Opera serenading a Sun Valley resident on stage with “La Boheme’s” famous “Che gelida manina”. David Malis from the Metropolitan Opera sang the romantic “Merry Widow Waltz” duet. Internationally-renowned Roman tenor Fabio Andreotti was flown in from Italy to Sun Valley twice, inspiring awe with a voice repertoire and style similar to that of the legendary Pavarotti.
Young Anya Matanovic captured hearts with her beauty and clear soprano voice. She was selected to perform by a professional adjudication panel at the Seattle finals of the second annual Sun Valley Opera Vocal Competition.
The Sun Valley BRAVO! Club aims to introduce the classically trained voice to a new generation of audiences.
